On Saturday, we celebrated P’s 4th birthday. I loved that his birthday was on a Saturday this year and that we got to spend the whole day with him. He woke us up bright and early, very excited that it was his birthday! We got up, got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast and gift opening!
It’s mornings like this where it is so fun to be a parent. Preston asked us for nun-chucks, since Michelangelo is his favorite ninja turtle and he uses nun-chucks to fight. That was all he wanted for his birthday. 🙂 But, we know that we want to take him camping this spring, so we also got him a sleeping bag. He is obsessed with both gifts! He has had the best time with the sleeping bag – taking naps in it and wanting to drag it all over the house. The nun-chucks have also been a huge hit and he is busy pretending to be “fighting bad guys.”
After that, we headed to Chuck E. Cheese. We had a very small get together for him this year. I didn’t reserve a big table or invite his class or anything, and I think it was more Preston’s style. He likes being center of attention, but he doesn’t like forced activities, so I think this was the perfect fit for him. We invited P’s grandparents, my brothers, Brian’s sisters, and a few of his best buddies. It was a fun morning and he LOVED his ninja turtles cake (thanks Kroger!).
He loved playing the games and getting tickets.
During the party, Margo partied a little too hard and passed out! Sister’s been teething too and hasn’t been sleeping much (neither have Brian and me).
After the party, we went home and attempted to take naps, which quickly turned into a disaster so we just gave up. Preston was so amped up from his party and all the sugar! But Margo went back to sleep and Brian took a nice nap with her. Preston and I snuggled on the couch and had some rest time. I loved it!
We spent the rest of the day at home. I cooked a special dinner for him with grilled chicken and mashed potatoes. Brian put him to bed that night and laid with him until 7:59 p.m., the moment he was born. Brian and I were talking after the kids went to sleep, and he was so happy he got to spend that minute with him on his birthday. He talked about how he is growing so fast, and we only have a few more years of getting to be with him on the minute he was born. 🙂 We talked about that night 4 years ago. His birth story was a crazy one, but Preston would not have it any other way. 🙂 He is one of a kind, super smart, makes us laugh everyday, and my wish come true.
We love you, Preston! Happy 4th birthday!
